Fastest-selling gaming peripheral

The fastest-selling gaming peripheral is Kinect for Xbox 360, which sold through an average of 133,333 units per day in its first 60 days on sale from 4 November 2010 to 3 January 2011. The device briefly held the record for the world’s fastest-selling consumer electronics product, and it remains the fastest-selling peripheral. Kinect was first unveiled at Microsoft’s E3 press conference on 1 June 2009. Back then it was code-named Project Natal. The name was chosen by Alex Kipman, one of the brains behind the technology. Microsoft likes to use cities as code-names and Natal is the name of a city in Brazil, Kipman’s home country. He liked the way it means “to be born” in Latin, which seemed fitting for a device designed to attract new types of people to the world of gaming.
