A game of European origin that dates back to Roman times, fistball is similar to volleyball although the ball can only be struck with the fist or arms (rather than an open hand), and is allowed to bounce after each contact. Germany secured its 12th world championship title on 17 August 2019, defeating Austria in the final by 4 sets to 0 (11:4, 11:4, 11:9, 11:5). Brazil (twice) and Austria are the only other nations to have won the tournament.
