A team travelling in the Thomson Reuters Polar Vehicle set a new record for the fastest overland journey to the South Pole, setting off from Patriot Hills on Sunday 18 December 2011 and arriving at their destination 39 hours and 54 minutes later. The team was comprised of two members, Jason De Carteret and Kieron Bradley (both UK).
