The Roxy, on Seventh Avenue and 50th Street, New York, USA, was built at a cost of US$12 million (then £2.4 million) and had an original seat capacity of 6,214 when it opened on 11 March 1927. Employing 16 projectionists, an orchestra of 110 musicians led by four conductors, three organists played simultaneously on Kimball organ consoles rising from the orchestra pit. It closed on 29 March 1960 and demolished that year.
