Roxann Weidner (USA) covered 1,640.11 km (1019.12 miles) on a snowmobile in 24 hours on a circular course at Tug Hill, New York, USA, from 24 to 25 January 2001. She made 118 laps of the course, which was just short of 14 km (9 miles) long, at an average speed of 68 km/h (42.5 mph).
It was not a clear run for this 51-year-old mother of two: at one point she rounded a blind corner and ended up in a ditch after being forced to swerve around a deer that was standing in the path. There were also many other riders to avoid on the trail during daylight hours, although this proved to be an advantage when one of them siphoned off some fuel for her after she ran out on one lap. She'd hoped to complete 119 laps, but exhaustion got the better of her and she flipped her 2001 Polaris XC700 snowmobile after having a run-in with a snow bank.
Exact length of course as surveyed: 13.8992 km (8.6366 miles).
Weider used her backup snowmobile (1995 Polaris XLT600) for an hour after the track on her primary vehicle broke.
