At the 10th attempt, composer/record producer Hans Zimmer (Germany) won his first-ever BAFTA award for Best Original Music for soundtracking the sci-fi film Dune (2021), taking home the prize at the 75th British Academy Film Awards in London, UK, on 13 March 2022. Zimmer had previously been nominated for scoring Thelma & Louise (1991), The Lion King (1994), Gladiator (2000; with Lisa Gerrard), The Dark Knight (2008; with James Newton Howard), Inception (2010), 12 Years a Slave (2013), Interstellar (2014), Blade Runner 2049 (2017; with Benjamin Wallfisch) and Dunkirk (2017).
Zimmer released three soundtrack albums for the five-time BAFTA-winning film in September/October 2021: Dune: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack; The Dune Sketchbook: Music from the Soundtrack; and The Art and Soul of Dune: Companion Book Music.
