The longest bridge-tunnel in the world is the 29.6-km (18.39-mile) main bridge section of the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge in the Pearl River Estuary, China. It consists of three cable-stayed bridges totalling 22.9 km (14.2 miles), a 6.7-km (4.2-mile) undersea tunnel and four artificial islands. Including approach highways, the total length is 55 km (34.2 miles)

Construction began in 2009 and was completed on 7 July 2017. The bridge was inaugurated on 24 October 2017 and opened the following day. The enormous road structure crosses the Lingdingyang channel, which connects Hong Kong with Macau and Zhuhai on the Pearl River Delta. It used 420,000 tonnes (462,970 tons) of steel, sufficient for 60 Eiffel Towers, and consumed 1.08 million m3 (38.1 million cu ft) of concrete.
