The highest ticket sales were for El Gordo's annual draw on 22 December 1999, which reached a total of £1,000million. The prize draw was for £804 million ($1.2 billion). Ticket sales were up 3% compared to the year before, with Spaniards buying an average £29 worth of tickets each. A total of 10,419 tickets were drawn, with the odds at winning at 1 in 6.
