The first snow kite crossing of East and West Antarctica was achieved by Alain Hubert and Dirk "Dixie" Dansercoer (both Belgium) in January 1998. They set out from Scott Base on the Ross Ice Shelf, and 99 days and 3,924 km (2,438 mi) later, ended at the Roi Baudouin Ice Shelf in Queen Maud Land, East Antarctica, have travelled via the South Pole.


Dansercoer and Hubert also made the first crossing of the Arctic Ocean from Siberia to Greenland in 2007.
