According to Paul Zimnisky Diamond Analytics' latest report, the Argyle Diamond Mine in the Kimberley region, Western Australia, Australia, produced 17.1 million carats of natural diamonds in 2017 – equivalent to 12% of the total global production of natural diamonds that year.
Currently more than 99% of Australia's diamond production comes from the Argyle Diamond Mine. However, the mine is reaching exhaustion and may close down by 2021, if not before.
As of the same year's data set, the largest producer of natural diamonds by volume (country) is Russia, with an output of 44 million carats – or 30.9% of world production.
