The fastest Antarctic Ice Marathon by a male athlete is 2 hours 53 minutes 33 seconds, achieved by Seán Tobin (Ireland) on Union Glacier, Antarctica, on 14 December 2022.

This annual event sees runners complete a 42.1-km (26.2-mi) course while battling an average windchill temperature of -20°C (-4°F).

Impressively, this was Tobin’s first marathon, although he has represented Ireland in international cross-country events. “I had to go deep inside myself, it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever done,” he commented afterwards.
