The most Olympic marathon medals won by a country is 13 and was achieved by the USA from 1904 to 2016.
The USA dominated the early editions of the men's marathon, winning seven medals by 1924. In recent years, Kenya and Ethiopia have been dominant in the road race and the former briefly equalled the USA with 12 Olympics medals when Eliud Kipchoge took gold in Rio. However, 90 seconds later American runner Galen Rupp crossed the line in third with a Personal Best to take bronze. Rupp became just the third American man to medal in the event since 1924.
