The smallest airship has an envelope of 80.816 m³ (2,853.9 ft³) and was achieved by Voliris (France) as measured and demonstrated in Moulins, France, on 5-7 October 2016.

To qualify for the record, Arnaud Siegel of Voliris took the airship on a test flight in the presence of aviation experts. The particular design of the envelope creates lift as well as buoyancy, which allows the envelope to be smaller than if it solely relied on buoyancy to keep the craft aloft.
