The skateboard "ollie" trick, by which the skateboarder makes the skateboard jump into the air without using their hands, was invented and first performed by American Alan Gelfand in Florida, USA, during 1977. Initially performed on skatepark banks and vertical walls, the ollie was later adapted for street-based skateboarding by Rodney Mullen and others during the early 1980s.
