The oldest married couple to visit the North Pole are Heinz G.Fischer (b.10 March 1929) and his wife Linda G. Burdet (b.29 November 1931) (both USA) who skied to the North Pole aged 79 and 76 respectively on 12 April 2008. The couple were dropped by helicpoter and skied 6.39 km to ice camp Barneo (1 degree south of the pole) where they camped overnight. This was part of an expedition but the expedition leaders at the time had never taken couples over 40 to the ice camp and it was they who suggested the couple submit a claim.
